about

Parting Glass/Captain O’Kane/Kingsfold
The Parting Glass is a beautiful song about friendship and camaraderie. Captain O’Kane is one of the many tunes written by Turlough O’Carolan (1670-1738). We first heard this played as a cannon by Cliff Moses on his tape The Coming of Spring. Found in many hymnals, the traditional English melody Kingsfold we first published in English Country Songs in 1893. When played in ¾ time, it is the tune for Star of County Down.
